Frequently Asked Questions:

What are prenatal classes?

Prenatal classes are educational sessions that prepare expectant parents for childbirth and early parenthood. They cover topics like labor stages, pain management, and newborn care, offering practical knowledge and emotional support. These prenatal care classes help demystify the birthing process, reduce anxiety, and build confidence, ensuring you're well-equipped for the arrival of your baby.

Are prenatal parenting classes helpful for first-time parents?

Absolutely! For first-time parents, prenatal parenting classes provide essential insights into childbirth and newborn care. They provide a structured environment for learning, asking questions, and connecting with others in similar situations. These classes build confidence, reduce fears, and equip you with practical skills, making the transition into parenthood smoother and more manageable.

When should I register and/or attend a childbirth class?

It's recommended to register for prenatal childbirth classes early in your second trimester. Attending classes during the third trimester, typically between 28 and 36 weeks, ensures the information is fresh as you approach your due date. Early registration also secures your spot and provides ample time to absorb the material and practice techniques.

How long do prenatal classes typically last?

At A Mother's Haven, most of our prenatal classes are 2.5 to 3 hours long. The Childbirth Prep Class is a one-day intensive session lasting 7 hours, typically held once or twice a month on Sundays. This comprehensive class covers topics such as labor stages, pain management, and more. The small group setting allows for personalized attention, and you’re encouraged to bring snacks and water. We also offer a 75-minute Prenatal Yoga class every Thursday evening.

What should I bring to a prenatal class?

Please come dressed in comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily. Bring a water bottle, snacks, and personal comfort items like a pillow or blanket. Most importantly, bring your support person — whether that’s a birth partner, friend, or family member. Having someone by your side makes the experience more engaging and helps them learn how to support you during labor and beyond.
