Your Path to a Positive Birth Experience: A Mother's Haven

At A Mother’s Haven, our intensive one-day prepared childbirth class is a full-spectrum learning experience rooted in evidence-based care. You’ll leave with a clear plan for birth (hospital, birth center, or home), practical newborn care tips, and early postpartum guidance that helps you feel ready for anything baby brings.

Our prepared childbirth classes cover everything from normal labor stages, pain relief management, to emotional preparation. We teach you how to use breathing techniques and exercise relaxation techniques during contractions, how to advocate for yourself with providers, and when it might be time to call your support person.

This class is a great complement to our other prenatal parenting classes, including newborn care classes and breastfeeding classes. It’s one part of our commitment over the last 20+ years to provide comprehensive education and support to new parents.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who can attend these classes?

Our childbirth prep class is open to all expectant parents and support partners, such as a friend or doula. It's ideal for first-time parents and those seeking a refresher. Anyone interested in quality parenting education and practical preparation is welcome to attend.

How long is the class?

This intensive prepared childbirth class is a one-day, 6-hour in-person class held once or twice a month. A lunch break is included midway through. We keep group sizes small to allow for plenty of discussion, hands-on learning, and questions tailored to your personal birth preferences and experience level.

Do I need to bring anything?

Please bring water, snacks, and anything that’ll keep you comfortable throughout the day. Handouts and class materials are provided. There’s a filtered water station available for refills. Feel free to pack pillows, layers, or your favorite pen for notes, whatever helps you settle in and stay focused.

How early in pregnancy should I take the class?

We recommend taking this childbirth prep class any time after the second trimester, once your routine prenatal classes begin. It’s most useful between 28–36 weeks, giving you time to practice breathing techniques and relaxation before baby arrives. Taking it too early means you might forget, and too late makes it harder to use the tools during labor.

Is this class suitable for first-time moms?

Yes, this class is designed for all expectant parents, and most of the class registrants are first-time parents. Whether it’s your first baby or your fifth, you’ll benefit from refreshed material, updated research, and group support based on real experience.

Are your instructors certified or experienced in childbirth education?

All of our instructors are experienced, having done prior childbirth education classes and holding all necessary licensing and certifications. For information and credentials of any instructor, please see their Instructor page.
